YUMYUM FLAMENCO KNIT PILLOW
I have this thing for bold and bright colors! When I was contacted by the lovely peeps of Black Sheep Wools to make a pattern using the new Hayfield Fiesta DK yarn by Sirdar, I immediately was blown away by the bright, eye catching colors of the range!
I have been meaning to knit a pillow for quite a while now; however when the opportunity came to work with Black Sheep Wools and Sirdar I knew that my thoughts would actually come to light!
So about the pillow, it's made of two pieces, then crocheted together using the single crochet stitch to form a border. I really loved the outcome; plus the single crochet stitch is an all time favorite!
Regarding the yarn; I used Hayfield Fiesta Dk by Sirdar, which is simply lovely and super affordable to work with! The yarn is incredibly soft and has a silky texture which makes it really easy to handle whether knitting or crocheting. The color range is simply eye catching and totally summery! It has a super-bright blend of 50% Bamboo and 50% Acrylic making it simply fun and easy to work with, especially under the hot summer temperatures of Greece!
Materials:
- YumYum Yellow ( 506) Hayfield Fiesta DK (50% bamboo, 50% acrylic) 1 ball
- Flamenco (507) Hayfield Fiesta DK (50% bamboo, 50% acrylic) 1 ball
- 9mm (13 US) knitting needles
- 8mm (11 US) crochet hook (for the border)
- a pillow (mine measures 45x25 cm)
- Tapestry needle
The Pattern:
You will be knitting holding both yarns at the same time. The pillow casing is knit in two pieces and is crocheted together around a pillow.
CO 52 sts.
Row 1: Knit all sts.
Row 2: Purl all sts.
Continue repeating the same pattern (stockinette stitch) until cover measures approx. 24 cm from CO edge.
The height is a bit smaller than the actual pillow to make it more poufy!
Repeat the whole process another time to make the second piece.
Assembly:
Take your two knit pieces and pin on the pillow using some safety needles to hold its position. Grab your crochet hook and start crocheting around the pillow through both knit pieces using the single crochet stitch. Upon reaching the first corner make 3 single crochet stitches to help maintain the form of the pillow. Repeat around all the way. Fasten off and weave in any remaining ends.
