A Woven Wall Hanging

It seems like an understatement to say that woven wall hangings have been everywhere recently. My pinterest feed has been literally flooded with them. I decided to give it a try although I had never attempted to do it before! Basically when it come s to weaving it is all about using a variety of yarn (even yarn scraps would do the job), colors, fibers etc. I am definitely no expert at weaving as this is my first attempt but I'm really satisfied with the outcome!:)

I do not own a loom, so the first thing I had to do was either to buy one or make one! My first option was to make a cardboard loom and for a first time thing it worked out really well!:)
A few days later I decided to make my own loom and start over! It was really fun and easy to make and I will be posting the tutorial for this pretty soon!:)
As you can see I created a much more durable wrap and also started to work with various fibers like wool roving! I also created some triangular shapes and added tassels!:)
I followed a combination of weaving tutorials like this one from Honestly WTF and this one from A Beautiful Mess. Also, Hello Hydrangea talks a bit about working with various fibers! One more interesting and really helpful blog is Loom & Spindle!

Once you get the hang of how to hold your needle and work with it,  it really becomes fun and easy to work with plus you can use any kind of yarn which really makes it even more interesting! I can only say that I have found a new hobby to work with and I can't wait to start my second project!:)
Have you ever tried weaving? What are you working on lately?
I hope you're having a lovely week so far! :)

  3. Just love your weaving! Awesome colours and a fab geometric pattern: you have really inspired me to take up weaving again. Thanks for the links to other weaving blogs and for the inspiration! I would be really interested to know how you made the loom as mine was similar to the one you have made but was sadly lost when I moved. Happy weaving!

  4. I just borrow a couple looms and want to give weaving a try. I'm excited to make a neat scarf, but I love the organic and natural feel that comes from a handmade loom. I have a few different tutorials for making different looms saved on Pinterest, I might need to experiment with different types!
