{Crochet Easter Hen Egg Cozy Pattern}

 Materials:
  • yarn in yellow and red for the hen small amount of white for eye, colors of your choice for flowers
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • yarn needle
Hen Pattern:
Hen measures approx. 17cm (6.5 inc) wide and 20cm (8 inc) long

Body (Make 2)
With yellow,
R1: ch 36 and sc until the end of row, ch 1 and turn (35)
R2: repeat the above until your piece measures 11 cm long.

Now you will start working the hen's head over the body. Sc in the first 16 st, ch1 and turn.
Scdec in the beginning of each row, up until you remain with 7 st.
Complete 3 rounds of 7 sc and fasten off.

For the tail, you will be working over the 14 st of the hen's body as with the head. Again scdec in the beginning of each round until you remain with 5 st on your hook. Fasten off.

Beak:
With yellow, ch2
R1: 4sc in second chain from hook (4)
R2: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from* around  (6)
R3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, rep from* around  (8)
R4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, rep from * around  (10) 
R5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, rep from * around  (12)
Fasten off.

Crest:
With red,
Ch 6,* 5 dc in second ch from hook, 1 sc, rep from* 3 times. Fasten off.

Comb:
With red,
Ch 12 and complete one round of dc. Fasten off.

Eyes:
With white, ch2 
R1: 4sc in second chain from hook (4)
Fasten off.

Flowers (make 6):
With color of your choice, ch2 
R1: 6sc in second chain from hook (6)
R2: attach new color,* ch3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc, sl st in next st,  rep from* around  5 times. Fasten off.
You will end up with 6 petals in total.

Assembly:
Take the two pieces you crocheted for the body, with the wrong sides facing you. Attach yellow yarn and sl st in each around. Take inside out. Sew beak and eyes in place. Attach the crest on top of  head. Fold the comb in half and sew under beak. Sew flowers in place, three on each side.  Using fiberfill stuff the head and tail a bit to keep in place. Enjoy your hen cosy!

  6. Hmm, I wonder if you could stuff it and make it into a toy, or put some sort of closure on the bottom (buttons or zip) and use it to hide Easter Eggs.
