{Halloween and a Crochet Pumpkin Pattern}

{Images via pumpkin pie and autumn leaves}
Fall is associated with warm colours... It's one of my fave seasons. And of course let's not forget about Halloween...Pumpkins everywhere!!! Unfortunately Halloween is not celebrated in Greece but who cares?
I always add a Halloween related decoration to the home and of course teach my students at class about Halloween! So this year I decided to crochet a little pumpkin to decorate the home!!!
{Pumpkin Crochet Pattern}
 MATERIALS
  • worsted yarn in orange, brown and green
  • 4mm crochet hook
  •  a small amount of orange yarn to shape the pumpkin
  • yarn needle
THE PATTERN
Pumpkin
Using orange yarn:
R1: Ch 2 then make 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch (12)
R3: 1 sc , 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (18)
R4: 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (24)
R5: 3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (30)
R6: 4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (36)
R7: 5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (42)
R8: 6 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (48)
R9-13: sc around (48)
R14: 1 dec, 6 sc, repeat 6 times (42)
R15: 1 dec, 5 sc, repeat 6 times (36)
R16: 1 dec, 4 sc, repeat 6 times (30)
R17: 1 dec, 3 sc, repeat 6 times (24)
Begin to stuff your pumpkin.
R18: 1 dec, 2 sc, repeat 6 times (18)
Continue to stuff.
R19: 1 dec, 1 sc, repeat 6 times (12)
R 20: 6 dec (6)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Shaping the pumpkin:
Take some orange yarn and divide your pumpkin in  half by wrapping the yarn around, when you have wrapped it around 5-6 times attach it by sewing it on your pumpkin. Repeat the same for the other half. Now when you'll look at your pumpkin from above you will have divided into two halfs. Start dividing each half into quarters repeating the above process. I know it may seem strange and difficult but when you do the half parts you'll understand how it works.
Bottom part of pumpkin
Stalk
Using brown yarn:
R1: Ch 2 then make 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch (12)
R3-6: sc in each stitch around (12)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Attach and sew  the stalk to the upper part of your pumpkin.

Leaf
Using green yarn:
R1: ch 26
R2: sc in second ch from hook and in each chain until the end (25)
It will automatically start to curl.
Sew your leaf on the pupkin near to the stalk.

This pattern can easily be adjusted. If you want just make a smaller or bigger pumkin, stalk or leaf.
Happy Halloween!

{Crochet Cupcake Garland}

I'm pretty sure you've all heard about Twinkie Chan, the girl that croshets food scarves! Her work is amazing and funky! G over to her blog to check out her amazing work!

Recently, as browsing the net I stumbled upon Kat Williams's blog the Rock n Roll Bride an alternative wedding inspiration blog.While reading the blog I came accross Twinkie's guest post about a crocheted cupcake garlandI immediately decided that I would follow her tutorial and create my very own cupcake garland used as a kitchen decoration!
So here is my version..

The pattern was very easy to follow and I finished the garland vey quickly! I decided to crochet 8 cupcakes as well -number 8 is lucky to the Chinese- as Twinkie states, and decided to use a variety of colors! I didn't crochet any cherries for the decoration but you could! I decorated the cupcakes with multi colored beads!
